Biography Music for Young Children is a high quality, well-rounded program for piano-based music lessons leading to Grade 1 Piano and Preliminary Rudiments Theory completion. Founded 30 years ago, MYC has several programs available, from children who are very young to children who are ages 4 (“Sunshine 1”), 5 or 6 (“Sunbeams 1”), or 7 or 8 (“Moonbeams 1”). Parent attends with child, September through June, as per the school calendar and is a big part of the success of the children in music lessons. The curriculum includes keyboarding, singing, movement to music, clapping games, theory lessons, composition festival, recital, and many incentives to keep children motivated. It’s fun, with lots of hands-on activities that complement the daily lesson objectives. Children learn to read music and to play the piano really well, with emphasis on rhythmic training and understanding all the musical symbols and terminology. TRY-IT classes are available by request so that parents and children can actually experience what a real lesson would be like. Biography Lynn-Raquel Welsh has lived in the Oak Ridges area of Richmond Hill for almost 32 years. During most of that time, she has been privileged to tutor many of our amazing children from Richmond Hill, Aurora, Newmarket, Thornhill, King City, and even Schomberg. With a background in Psychology [McMaster], and much of her more than 3 decade teaching career being in Special Education, she feels extremely qualified to team up with children who are experiencing challenges in their classrooms. It is her passion to assist them in developing the strategies and inner self confidence to feel truly successful at school.
