Local artists at the Mill Pond Gallery this weekend are Song Ryan Moon and Valerie Kent. This show is presented as “A Long Journey: East meets West” – a seranade in form and colour!
It is amazing how artists Valerie Kent, from Hungary and Song Ryan Moon, from Korea met right here in Richmond Hill and started a great friendship which has now resulted in their new art show and sale called “East Meets West” at the Mill Pond Gallery, 314 Mill St. across from the Mill Pond Park on Saturday and Sunday, May 15th and 16th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Both award winning artists have Masters degrees in art and have continued their studies formally and widely with workshops and many years of practice: both have their work in international collections as well as in Canada . Valerie teaches at colleges and for art societies throughout Ontario and overseas.
They are individually diverse in that their own subject matter which changes as they paint and grow, but on the other hand, there is no mistaking which artist has done which pieces.
Song paints butterflies and symbols all of which mean something to her and each painting has imbedded in it, involved and mysterious philosophical statements of great beauty.
Valerie paints her emotions which are translated to landscapes, some expansive, some traditional. She loves the Oak Ridges Moraine and its trees, valleys and hills, its marshes, and flowers. Also Valerie paints what she feels and sees in Muskoka and Haliburton where she teaches art and goes to paint for pleasure. She is an enthusiastic plein air painter in oil, acrylic, and watercolour.
If you have been looking and have had difficulty finding those large paintings which would fit over a fireplace or in the living room over the couch, there are several larger paintings in the show which would suit larger homes and offices, as well as midsize and small pieces. In fact, something for everyone. Both artists accept commissions, and Valerie will accept portrait, house, and pet commissions.
Come out and see what “East Meets West” has brought to Richmond Hill . Valerie can be contacted at artistvalerie[at]yahoo[dot]ca and 905-508-5531 or www.valeriekent.com
The gallery is open from 11 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday.
Plenty of parking and refreshments are served!
